How exact age is calculated
Your age here comes from real calendar arithmetic, not rough averages of 365-day years. The calculator compares your date of birth with the reference date in three passes: first whole years, then leftover whole months, then leftover days. Whenever the day count would go negative, it borrows from the length of the month immediately before the reference date — because months run anywhere from 28 to 31 days, that borrowed figure changes depending on where the dates fall.
For example, from 15 June 1995 to 25 August 2026 the subtraction gives 31 years, 2 months and 10 days. Counting the same pair across a different stretch of the year would borrow 31 days some months and 30 on others. This borrowing method matches what you get if you count forward by hand on an actual calendar, anniversary by anniversary, which is why the result always agrees with how old you "really" are on a given date.
Why "one year older" is not 365 days
A tropical year lasts about 365.2422 days, which is why the Gregorian calendar inserts a February 29 roughly every four years. If a calculator simply divided total days lived by 365, someone born in 1995 would appear almost a week older than they are by 2026. Walking the real calendar between the two dates avoids that drift entirely — leap days, uneven months and century rules are all absorbed automatically.

Someone born on a Thursday in 1995 celebrates another Thursday birthday in 2023, and again in 2051. The pattern only breaks across century years not divisible by 400, such as 2100.
